About the Author


David W. Allen is the GIS manager for the City of Euless, Texas. He has taught at Tarrant County College since 1999, where he helped found one of the first GIS degree programs in Texas and establish a state standard for GIS degree programs. He is the author of GIS Tutorial 2: Spatial Analysis Workbook (Esri Press, 2010) and Getting to Know ArcGIS ModelBuilder (Esri Press, 2011).


Jeffery M. Coffey, GISP, is currently the GIS manager for the Tarrant Regional Water District in Fort Worth, Texas, where he manages large GIS implementation, analysis, and integration projects. Coffey taught GIS classes at the University of North Texas and University of Texas at Arlington and helped establish an accredited GIS program at Tarrant County College where he currently teaches and serves on the GIS program's advisory board.

The result is a powerful course in a book designed ultimately for classroom study and perfect for any instruction in ArcGIS 10.

This book will be the 'capstone' in my 'learning curve enhancement.
Should help deepen my learning level and enhance my skills in GIS.

GIS TUTORIAL 2: SPECIAL ANALYSIS WORKBOOK FOR ARCGIS 10 has been fully revised for ArcGIS Desktop 10 compatibility, providing a workbook keyed to understanding its applied geographic technology. Intermediate users will find this compliments Andy Mitchell's ESRI GUIDE TO GIS ANALYSIS, VOLUMES 1 & 2, reinforcing learning with a series of workbook exercises that apply varied forms of spatial analysis in Mitchell's books. A 'must' for any student seeking reinforcement of Mitchell's concepts.
I found starting with Chapter 7 that you need to check the steps carefully especially if you get the wrong results at the end of the exercises. Redoing the exercises usual resolved differences in my results with a couple of the exercises. From Chapter 7 on is where I found the core Spatial Analysis exercises. Checking the GIS Tutorial 1 book there is some overlap with buffers and geoprocessing tools. The book comes with a 180 day license to Desktop ArcGIS 10 which is a great deal. There was nothing like these books around 15 years when I started in GIS so I would recommend them especially for learners of GIS and catching up on the changes in version 10.

I bought for school arrived at normal time it was suppose to be delivered. I had a problem with the manufacturing of the book, which had nothing to do with seller, and they responded quickly and professionally about the situation. They were eager to help and solve the problem quickly.

Introduction to GIS course and it is one of the best resources for learning GIS on the market. My students find the exercises easy to follow, your turn exercises reinforce what they just learned, and the end of chapter assignments are excellent. They give just enough instruction while making students think critically. By the end of the semester, my students have a thorough understanding of GIS and are able to develop an advanced GIS project on their own. Instructors receive a DVD with lecture notes that are extremely valuable.

The software, which I expected with the book, was not clarified; so, for you future buyers, if want ArcInfo, or a particular level of the software, buy the software separately, if possible. Other than that, the book was in great condition. The material contains some (minor)discrepancies though, in a couple exercises. Cool program though; making interactive maps, can't wait.

After reading this book, I got see another side. This woman is fiercely spiritual and honest with herself--which is rare. And she's proof that hard work and vision and focus can bring success. I finished the book in one day and closed it feeling that I really like this lady. And I want to thank all of the negative reviewers because it made me want to read the book, just to see if they were telling the truth. I guess we all can't be Kardashians and Jenners! Well, I think they are a normal, loving family and I find them fascinating! Thanks for sharing Kris..

This book was a pleasant surprise, I wasnt able to put it down. It had a great flow and kept my attention from cover to cover. If I wasnt a true fan before, i am definitely one now! Kudos to Kris!!! A true example that Moms can RUN IT ALL!!!
